Another Where I Have Been Post
You may (or may not) have noticed that I haven't been here for a couple of weeks. Two weeks ago I received a call that would rock my world, although at the time I didn't know it.
About three years ago my grandfather was diagnosed with Multiple Myloma. We knew there was no cure, but the doctors said they could hold it off for a little while. In fact they were able to get it into remission through chemo, and for a while everything was good.
Then in September we found out the cancer had returned. The doctors urged my grandfather to go through chemo once again, and he was ready for it but had planned a trip with my grandmother for the end of September. He loved to travel, and couldn't stomach the idea of not taking at least one more trip, plus he knew once he started chemo he wouldn't be able to travel. The doctors agreed, and my grandparents went on the trip. However the day after they returned home my grandfather had an episode that landed him in the hospital, with his kidneys on the verge of shutting down.
From that point on the cancer took a toll, a toll far worse than what he had experienced with it before. Two weeks ago my grandmother called and said he had gone down hill tremendously. I spent the next week with him and on Friday February 11th I was by his side as he passed. I am thankful for those last few days with him and am forever grateful for the opportunity to be with him then.
